Warning- Fake Telstra Phishing Scam Doing The Rounds

Another example has also come to our attention, this time targeting Telstra Bigpond customers with the aim of acquiring personal and financial information.

This fake email has font, images and content obtained directly from the Telstra website and appears to be sent from one of Telstra’s own service addresses (crowdsupport@bigpond.com.au), so it looks very legitimate.

Below is an example of what the current fake Telstra phishing scam may look like in your inbox.

 

The content of the email compels targeted victims to follow a link which directs them to a form on a fake website. This form then requests personal details and credit card information. After the information has been submitted, the fake website redirects back to the legitimate Telstra website.

Telstra advises that they never ask their customers to supply personal details by following a link.

SCAMwatch urges that you keep a particular lookout for any emails that request passwords, account verification, credit card numbers or other personal details, by asking you to ‘click on a link’.
