Wondering where the NBN will arrive next?

Posted by

The map showing where the NBN will arrive next has changed.

NBN Co’s interactive map http://www.nbnco.com.au/when-do-i-get-it/rollout-map.html has been available for some time so people can see whether their premises are or soon will be served by the NBN, and whether they will get a fixed line or fixed wireless connection.

A new update to the map identifies areas where ‘build preparation’ work is taking place ahead of the rollout of fixed connections. These activities include making Telstra’s pits and pipes ready to receive NBN cables.

Green areas on the map indicate where build preparation is underway, while brown denotes that construction contracts have been issued, and purple that service is available.

So residents of Taree NSW can, for example, see that the build has commenced in areas to the southwest and northeast, preparatory work is under way to the northwest, but there is no indication of any activity in the town centre.

And that’s the downside of the change – the map previously showed areas where work was scheduled to commence within the next three years.

The map now provides no information about the rollout until some sort of work begins on the ground, so you have less time to think about what you might do with an NBN connection. It also makes life more difficult for people thinking of moving house during the next few years.
