Recently a user received what appeared to be an Australia Post email.

The user was unsure about the email, however as one of their other offices was expecting a parcel to be dropped off at their local Australia Post they forwarded the email to their colleague.

Their colleague received the email and, as they were expecting something to be delivered to their local post office, they clicked the link. The link took them to a “Virus Injection” website and their computer was injected with a zero day virus known as “Crypto Locker” click here to read what this very nasty virus Crypto Locker does

This virus goes through everything it can see and renames the files to *.encrypted and then asks you to pay a large amount of money to have the files unlocked.

There is no recovery, except from backup or paying the ransom.

Luckily for this user all data was recoverable and their computer returned to normal, thanks to the FreshCare team. However many other people have not been so lucky and have either lost all data, or paid upto ten thousand dollars to get data back.
